Welcome to the UWC Short Courses Resource Platform

WELCOME TO THE UWC SHORT COURSES RESOURCE PLATFORM

So you want to run a UWC short course? That's great! You've been given access to this short courses resource platform because we at UWC International think your ideas and ability to deliver a UWC short course have great potential.

We understand that planning and running a UWC short course can be a daunting process as there are many details and aspects to running a successful and transformative UWC experience. Hence, we have created this platform to provide all the information you need to embark on the journey of being a UWC short course organiser, from project initiation to actually running your course.

On this platform, you can find resources relevant to the development of a UWC short course, such as information on the UWC brand, selection criteria for participants and ensuring safety and managing risk at your course.

You will also find information about UWC International,  UWC's schools and colleges, and contact information for our national committee colleagues around the world.

We have divided this platform into four stages:

Each stage forms part of the organiser journey which, from working with short courses for a number of years, UWC International have learnt all UWC short courses follow in the 12 or so months before delivering their short course. Each stage and sub-stage comes with the materials and resources needed to successfully go through it on to the next.

Copyright Protections

To create this platform, we've relied on the knowledge and generosity of previous short course organisers and facilitators to share their expertise and carefully crafted resources. To protect this generosity and encourage more organisers in the future to share their resources for the benefit of their peers, and ultimately the UWC movement, we have created the following copyright guidelines. Please read and understand these terms of using this platform:

The UWC short courses community is increasingly recognising that there is a powerful body of knowledge and resources among individual UWC short course organisers and that there’s a clear benefit in harnessing this for wider gain. This ‘open source’, ‘sharing’ idea brought about this resource platform, which shares knowledge and resources to support the increasing volume and consistent quality of UWC short courses.

This relies on the generosity of UWC short course organisers and facilitators who have shared their carefully created resources, their intellectual property (something unique that a person or organisation physically creates), with UWC International and agreed to their use in the resource platform.

You are welcome to use and make the most of the resources shared on this platform, as long as you comply with the following copyright guidelines. These have been developed to help avoid issues of infringement (using someone’s work without permission) and to protect the shared work. If you did not create something, you need to follow some rules in order to use it, even if there is no copyright logo (©) on the individual piece of work.

UWC International have sought and obtained permission from all organisers and facilitators who created the original work featured on this resource platform. These permissions were granted on the basis that:

*Third party refers to the short course organiser(s) who will go on to use the resource from the resource platform.

Note: all resources on this platform where you are advised to ‘make a copy’ to your drive and edit from there have been developed by UWC International (in some cases, such as the risk assessment templates, by drawing on resources freely provided to UWC International by previous short course organisers): these can be used directly (saved, edited and used) as long as you comply with the above guidelines.

Other resources, which are often presented in PDF, have been created solely by organisers and facilitators themselves and should be used as inspiration only, NOT directly copied. Therefore, they cannot be used directly. For example, the sample curriculums provided must not be replicated, and should be used to INSPIRE a full and varied curriculum. They show how individual activities can come together to create a comprehensive learner journey. In addition, the brochure and thank you document presented show how the UWC Brand Toolkit can be interpreted differently by each short course organiser to create beautiful marketing materials.

Other PDFs, such as policies and team role descriptions, have been developed by UWC International, and are to be used as the building blocks forming the foundations of your UWC short course.

By accessing this resource platform, you are agreeing to comply with the above guidelines.

You can download these copyright guidelines, or view them in PDF, here.
